As part of our countdown to Readers & ‘ritas 2017, our
Meet the
Author interview series helps you get to know the authors joining us in
Texas on November 10-12. Read on to get acquainted with author
Bridget Blackwood, and purchase your tickets to meet her
in person at Readers &
‘ritas!
What book made you fall in love with the genre you write?
Fantasy Lover by Sherrilyn Kenyon. It was the first time I'd ever
read a paranormal romance with such a large world building scope. It was
amazing and I wanted more, easily devouring the next dozen Dark-
Hunter books.
If a movie were made of your most recent book, who would you cast in
the lead and why?
Dove Cameron would be a great Ianthe (from LOST IN PARADISE, the latest in my World in Shadows
series). I've seen her play a variety of characters and she always nails the
performance like she was born for it. I think she'd be able to portray
Ianthe's fierceness through her vulnerability she wears like armor. She's
very beautiful and younger looking, which lends credit to the deadly allure
of Sirens. Sam Claflin is my pick for the male lead. Zander comes off as
carefree and playful, but he's also loyal, smart, and cares deeply for the
people he calls his "family." Claflin certainly looks the part and he proved
he can play versatile roles. He'd compliment Miss Cameron nicely.
What was the first story you ever wrote?
Oh goodness, this is embarrassing. In third grade, I wrote a story weaving
elements from movies and television I'd seen. I didn't know
what plagiarism was so I had huge, recognizable plot points from media
everyone knew. A crazy psychedelic mishmash.
If you could change the ending to any famous book, TV show, or
movie, what would it be and how would you rewrite it?
Do I need to put a spoiler warning here? I kind of feel like maybe I do,
lol. There is a certain guy in Game of Thrones who favors pony
tails, black
eyeliner, and has a thing for girls with platinum hair; he would still be
around.
What is your favorite part of meeting your readers (and new
readers)?
The excitement. Obviously, I'm excited about my books but getting to share
it with someone else is really special. Talking about characters, places,
and events like they're real makes my heartbeat speed up like mad. With new
readers, a chance to introduce my characters is always nice. If they aren't
into my genre of writing or my particular work, we can still share a love of
books. There is no way to lose.
