Instead of trying to find your perfect match in a dating app, we bring you the “Author-Reader Match" where we introduce you to authors you may fall in love with. It's our great pleasure to present Cindy Brown!
Writes:
Mysteries for every mood. My new serious mystery, ECHOES OF THE LOST, is the story of a tired, shut-off man who must open himself up to life, of the mystery that compels him to re-engage with the world, and of the little boy who shows him that kindness is found in the most unexpected places.
In the mood for something light? My Agatha-nominated Ivy Meadows series features a goofily endearing actress/PI-in-training, her pun-loving PI uncle, and a slightly silly look at the off, off, off Broadway world of theater.
About:
I am an optimist, always looking for the good in every situation. It may sound strange that a sunny soul like me loves mysteries, but they all do end with hope and justice (at least mine do).
I live in my favorite city in the world, Portland, Oregon, with my husband and bigger-than-life terrier, among giant fir trees hundreds of years old. I love the rain, the quirky vibe of Portland, and my friendly neighborhood where I can walk to my community garden, a nearby arts center where I take painting classes, and my favorite bookstore in the world, Annie Bloom’s.
I’m looking for readers who like:
• Mysteries that will keep them guessing.
• Flawed protagonists with good intentions.
• Found families.
• Light in dark times.
• Short chapters that fly by.
• Kindness and community.
What to expect if we're compatible:
• Stories that find the good in people.
• A warm sense of humor.
• Endings that make you gasp.
• Characters who make the best of what they’ve got.
• Different storytelling formats, including novels, short stories, and radio plays!
• Fun times on Substack with the Slightly Silly Newsletter, which focuses on the lighter side of mystery, including “Best Places to Hide the Body.”

One retired detective. One frightened boy. One daring librarian. The case that will unravel everything. A tense, emotional mystery perfect for fans of Michael Connelly and Liz Moore.
He usually had something to go on: a body, a name, a weapon . . . What did he have now?
Retired detective Ster McCaffrey has lived in isolation since the death of his beloved wife. Recently disabled from a traumatic brain injury, his quiet life is interrupted when he wakes in the dead of night to find a child sobbing on his doorstep—leaving him with more questions than answers.
After learning that the boy and his missing mother are unhoused with no official investigation underway, Ster decides to solve the mystery himself. To do so, he'll need to interview a community whose voice is rarely heard: the houseless of Portland, Oregon. Diving deeper into their tight-knit circle, Ster realizes trust is hard-won, and answers even more so. The further he goes, the more difficult it is to tell where the case ends, and his past begins.
With threats to his home, new evidence found in the river, and signs pointing to murder—friends and enemies are closer than Ster realizes. Only one thing is clear: the boy is in grave danger.
For fans of Cindy Brown's Macdeath, now comes a fresh take on classic crime thrillers.
