What is the title of your latest release?
CHASE THE LIGHT - book two in my National Park Summers series.
What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book?
A young park ranger follows a trail of clues tied to a long-buried mystery in Acadia National Park, only to discover that what she’s really chasing might be truth, healing, truth, and a love she didn’t expect.
How did you decide where your book was going to take place?
Acadia National Park practically chose me! There’s something about that rugged coastline, the crashing ocean, and those quiet carriage roads that feels both mysterious and sacred. It begged for a story.
Would you hang out with your heroine in real life?
Absolutely! Ranger Scout Johnson is enthusiastic, a little earnest, and deeply loyal. She’d probably have us up at sunrise for a rugged hike, but she’d also remember how to get us back. And I’d bring the snacks. An ideal combo.
What are three words that describe your hero?
Earnest. Rule-follower. Amusing.
What’s something you learned while writing this book?
That history is rarely as tidy as we’d like it to be. And sometimes the truth has been buried on purpose.
Do you edit as you draft or wait until you are totally done?
A little of both. I can’t help but tinker as I go, but I also know the real work begins once the full story is on the page. It’s hard to stop editing (like icing a cake). Deadlines help.
What’s your favorite foodie indulgence?
Chips and guacamole. I’m a savory-over-sweet type.
Describe your writing space/office!
Cringing! I work in a tiny laundry room, with big dogs taking over space, plus a broom closet/pantry right behind my chair. Terrible! But…it works for me. It’s kind of the heart of the house.
Who is an author you admire?
Madeleine L’Engle. She had a way of weaving faith and story together without forcing either one.
Is there a book that changed your life?
A GIFT IN TIME by Anne Morrow Lindbergh. Opened my eyes to the thoughtful, reflective writing life.
Tell us about when you got “the call.”
For me, it wasn’t one moment, but many. Like climbing steps on a steep hike. (Maybe in Acadia?) And I still get a thrill when I receive a new contract!
What’s your favorite genre to read?
This might surprise you, but I read a lot of non-fiction. So much to learn!
What’s your favorite movie?
This will date me…but it’s hard to beat A Sound of Music.
What is your favorite season?
Spring! I’m an enthusiastic, determined, and cock-eyed-optimist gardener.
How do you like to celebrate your birthday?
Quietly! I don’t advertise.
What’s a recent tv show/movie/book/podcast you highly recommend?
I just finished the novel Culpability by Bruce Holsinger for my book club and would recommend it. Disturbing! But it will keep you from picking up your phone while driving. Ever.
What’s your favorite type of cuisine?
Chinese! We lived in Hong Kong for four years and I took cooking lessons while there.
What do you do when you have free time?
I play tennis regularly, walk dogs each day, love to experiment in the kitchen. And then…my garden is always calling to me.
What can readers expect from you next?
In October, A PLAIN CONFESSION will release. A stranger has arrived in Stoney Ridge, Pennsylvania, with a message he wants to give someone. But he needs to find her, first.
