Jennie Goutet | Author-Reader Match: A LOVE ONCE LOST

Instead of trying to find your perfect match in a dating app, we bring you the “Author-Reader Match" where we introduce you to authors you may fall in love with. It's our great pleasure to present Jennie Goutet!

Writes:

Refined historical romance set in 18th century Europe with witty dialogue, subtle humor, and a slow-burning passion characterized by dignity and restraint.

About:

Jennie is a fancy-pants cosmopolitan author who lives in a Parisian suburb ten minutes away from the Arc de Triomphe (and spills food on her shirt every day, doesn’t drink the wine, and has a gluten intolerance). She adores Rachmaninoff, the craggy cliffs of Brittany, a bracing wind, strong hot coffee and gluten-free vanilla cake, her French husband and three grown children, an aptly-turned phrase, and a God who made all of these things. She has written over twenty books, most set in the Regency period, and is having a blast writing 18th century romance stories set closer to what she now calls home.

My ideal reader for A LOVE ONCE LOST must love:

  • Spending time in 1770 Spa, adapting to its customs and wearing elaborate, feminine gowns and perfumed powdered hair.
  • Experiencing the angst of having lost your true love, of finding him again, only to learn he has just become engaged.
  • Reliving memories of stolen kisses that you heroically try to shove aside since he is no longer yours and you are not one to try and steal him back.
  • Putting up with eccentric, funny, and occasionally frustrating family members because you love them, even when they’re really not helping matters any!
  • Trying to decipher the occasional, unavoidable French phrase, despite the fact that you never wanted to leave England in the first place!
  • Thinking, hoping, and dreaming that maybe - just maybe, it will all come out all right in the end.

What to expect if we're compatible:

  • A solid, historically accurate plunge into 18th and 19th century life, where you’ll only want to return to modern day for the running water, penicillin, and easily-accessible snacks.
  • A longing as you read to want to do better, to be better through adversity - and an increasingly strong conviction that you will never settle for anything less than what you’re worth.
  • A friendly author newsletter, YouTube channel, Facebook group, and Instagram account with all the latest releases, behind-the-scenes glimpses, French stuff, personal and writing news, and the real me!

Bridwells' Grand Tour Book #1

A Love Once Lost

A Georgian-Era European Grand Tour Historical Family Saga with Second Chance Romance

Amy Bridwell reluctantly accompanies her family on a Grand Tour of the Continent—the very trip her former sweetheart proposed they take as newlyweds. Receiving no suitable marriage offer in the six years since and with her heart still guarded by regret, Amy has no choice but to go along with her widower father and younger sisters to ensure their travels proceed smoothly.

James Fletcher has built a successful practice as a physician in the fashionable resort town of Spa. Though he came with a wounded heart, seeking distance from Amy's rejection, he's managed to build a respectable life and is now engaged to a woman who will ensure his professional future. If only he could be certain that his betrothed's heart is truly his.

When the Bridwells arrive at their first destination, Amy is stunned to encounter James again. He is promised to another, and as old feelings resurface, Amy must confront the choice she made six years ago, facing the possibility that her heart has never truly moved on.

Bestselling historical romance author Jennie Goutet weaves a story of lost love and second chances against the scenic backdrop of Georgian—era Europe.

About Jennie Goutet

Jennie Goutet

Jennie Goutet is an American-born Anglophile who lives with her French husband and their three children in a small town outside of Paris. Her imagination resides in Regency England, where her best-selling proper Regency romances are set. She is also author of the award-winning memoir Stars Upside Down, two contemporary romances, and a smattering of other published works. A Christian, a cook, and an inveterate klutz, Jennie sometimes writes about faith, food, and life—even the clumsy moments—on her blog.
